Damanga Praises Decision of Israeli Government to Grant Citizenship to Darfurian Refugees

The Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy welcomes the generous initiative made today by the Israeli government to grant citizenship to the 300 Darfurian refugees who crossed the border from Egypt, and who seek a safe haven in Israel. Damanga finds this to be a significant and critical move by the Israeli government, which has previously shown concern for the ongoing genocide in Darfur. Israel is consistently criticized for its foreign policies and is classified by others as a nation that does not uphold the values it was founded upon. However, Israel has proven that it is one of few countries that seriously values humanity, freedom and the dignity of refugees.

The Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy is grateful for the role the Israeli government has played in welcoming and saving the refugees from Darfur from continued persecution. On behalf of our people in Darfur, we would like to take this opportunity to recognize their kindness and generosity. Israel has clearly proven that it has not forgotten the past, and it has employed those lessons to make an ethical foreign policy decision today.
