Extends Condolences: At Least Twenty-Two Die in Plane
Crash in South Sudan
May 03, 2008
On May 2, 2008, a Sudanese plane carrying
passengers from Wau to Juba crashed, killing at least
twenty-two people. This incident brings back memories
of the death of former South Sudan leader John Garang
who tragically died in a helicopter crash in 2005. This
accident was reportedly caused by engine trouble which
the pilot radioed in to the Rumbek tower moments before
the crash. As a result, South Sudan’s defense
minister, Dominic Dim Deng, Presidential advisor Justin
Yak, and both their wives were killed along with other
passengers and crew.
The Damanga Coalition for Freedom
and Democracy is saddened by this news. We extend our
heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of
the victims as well as to all Sudanese mourning this
loss.
