Congressmen
Payne and Capuano oppose normalizing ties with sudan
May 28, 2008
Two
United States Congressmen, Donald Payne and Michael
Capuano have made a statement opposing the Bush Administration
normalizing ties with the government of Sudan. The Congressmen
stated that, "the Bush Administration must end
normalization talks with the Bashir regime in light
of what has taken place in Abyei." They also went
on to say, "We strongly condemn any move toward
normalization of relations until the provisions of the
CPA are implemented, peace is restored in Abyei and
Darfur, and the outcome of the Southern and Abyei referendums
are respected." These Congressmen echo the voices
of Darfur Advocates who are also opposed to normalizing
ties with the government of Khartoum.
The Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy praises
the two Congressmen for this bold statement. Damanga
is truly grateful, and urges other senators, and House
representatives, and all Darfur Advocates to join Congressmen
Payne and Capuano in taking a stand against normalizing
ties with Sudan.
