condolences
for ugandan peacekeeper in darfur
May 30, 2008
On
Wednesday May 28 2008, a Ugandan UNAMID peacekeeper
was found dead in his vehicle in the outdoor market
of El Fasher. The peacekeeper, Inspector of Police John
Kennedy Okecha, was posted at an airport in Darfur.
He is the first UNAMID peacekeeper to be killed after
the UNAMID took over from the African Union force. Ugandan
police officials and UNAMID officials are investigating
the circumstances surrounding Inspector Okecha’s
death.
Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy is
saddened by the death of Inspector Okecha and we would
like to extend our condolences to the family and friends
of Mr. Okecha. We also extend our condolences to the
members of the Uganda Police force and the people of
Uganda. These acts of violence against peacekeepers
are discouraging and they must stop. We hope that those
who are responsible for these attacks are discovered
and brought to justice.
