sudanese
government responds to iCC
June 05, 2008
In
light of the recent ICC statement that the Sudanese
government is involved in crimes against humanity, Sudan’s
ambassador to the United Nations, Abdalmahmoud Abdalhaleem
Mohamed, has claimed the allegations made against his
government are both vicious and fictitious. He has accused
the International Criminal Court of obstructing the
peace process that the government already had underway
in Sudan and is demanding that the chief prosecutor,
Luis Moreno-Ocampo, be held accountable for the consequences.
Damanga feels that the United Nations ambassador,
Abdalmahmoud Abdalhaleem Mohamed, is attempting to create
a smoke screen in order to cause widespread confusion
throughout the international community. Now that the
ICC has made a definitive statement on the issue, the
Sudanese government has realized that international
players will begin to take action, therefore their best
preventative measure is to keep questions in the air.
Any doubt that the Sudanese government can place in
the minds of the international community provides a
small victory for them yet causes massive steps back
in ending the genocide. Damanga encourages the international
community to continue to support the ICC and not allow
the manipulative methods of the Sudanese government
or the words of Abdalmahoud Abdalhaleem Mohamed to have
a lasting affect.
