LaRouche Denies Genocide in Darfur

According to news sources, Lyndon LaRouche claims that calling the warfare, violence, and suffering in Darfur “genocide” is merely propaganda, remarking that the situation is a “highly orchestrated operation” due to “outside interests”, specifically citing British Intelligence as collaborating and combining forces with the Muslim Brotherhood. Instead of stopping the genocide, LaRouche has called for the Obama administration to focus on economic and resource development within Sudan.

Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy is extremely disturbed by Mr. LaRouche’s comments and his false perception of the situation. Even though Mr. LaRouche himself has visited the war-torn region several times and has witnessed the violence on a first-hand basis, he still continues to deny the severity of the violence. Damanga is astounded by the fact that LaRouche thinks that development should take priority within the region over aid and a solution to the terror, rape, and killings that have wrecked the lives of so many Darfuris. Furthermore, to say that development would help the Darfur people is absurd: Since Bashir has been in power, the Darfur region has always been denied basic necessities and resources.

Instead, Damanga believes that LaRouche’s commentary is derived from his own interests in nation-building within Africa, utilizing Sudanese resources by naturalizing relationships with Bashir, and his desire for the United States to remain inactive in the situation. LaRouche stated, “this [Darfur] is a dangerous situation: It would be a terrible thing, a great folly, if the Obama Administration were to be sucked into an adventure, such as an adventure against Bashir of Sudan." It is clear from this language that LaRouche would rather support a perpetrator of genocide and let Darfuris to continue suffering. Thus, LaRouche’s denial of genocide in Darfur is simply a reflection of his self-centered interests in gaining economic and political ties within Sudan.

Even though the Obama Administration and associated political figures promised during the election campaign that Darfur would be a number one priority on the international agenda, it is evident that individuals like LaRouche have affected real action. Even Senator Kerry and Mr. Scott Gration’s visit to the Darfur region has undermined efforts to stop the genocide as they attempted to rekindle relationships between the U.S. and Bashir. Thus, Damanga urges ALL OF YOU to persist in your efforts to make the U.S. government act on behalf of its promises regarding the genocide in Darfur.
