Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy welcomed the appointment of the new US special Envoy for Sudan
March 19, 2009
Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy welcomed the appointment of the new US special Envoy for Sudan, retired General J Scott Gration. He was appointed yesterday by the Obama Administration to continue the efforts to stop the Darfur genocide. We greatly appreciate the Obama administration for responding to the critical needs for an envoy to work on this gravest tragedy on humanity in Darfur and that they responded against al-bashir after his retaliation against the refugees by expelling the NGO's & organizations working to aid Darfuri refugees. More than 14 aid organizations were kicked out by al-bashir. This has created a new cycle of disaster and instability in Darfur and caused more disease, starvation and thirst among refugees who rely on humanitarian aid on a daily basis. It will be a difficult job for the new Envoy to move quickly to engage the whole International community very quickly and take the initiative to stop al-bashir from eliminating lives by using starvation, thirst and disease as weapon of war to kill millions living on this aid assistance. Damanga also urges the new envoy to move forward towards restoring peace and accountability by securing the arrest of al-bashir before it is too late. Darfuri people can't afford to wait longer to preserve al-bashir.
Damanga also urges President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice to live up to their promises made before and during the election. We need to see a serious action taken immediately, and not to repeat the same scenario of 'never again' anymore.
