Darfur Students in Khartoum University Targeted by Sudan government Intelligence:
November 10, 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
For Immediate Release Washington, DC
An Open Letter to the United Nations
H E Mr. Ban Ki Moon, UN Secretary General,
H E Honorable Obama, President of United States,
H E Honorable Silva Kiir, Vice President of Sudan,
H E Minni Minnawi, Presidential Advisor for Darfur,
Darfur Students in Khartoum University Targeted by Sudan government Intelligence:
We, as Darfuri people, organizations and activists, are undersigned below, and compelled to speak out by the horrific incidents taking place in Khartoum and all Sudan against our Darfuri Students in Khartoum University and other Sudanese Institutions. We have been following closely the escalation of the systematic attacks against only Darfuri Students by Sudan Security Intelligence and Police. Darfuri Students, being harassed, beaten by metal objects, shot by guns, raped, tortured, arbitrary detentions, and suspensions from the schools and Universities. There's no other reason for attacking them except because the students demonstrated peacefully to demand their rights as Sudanese Students to be treated equally. Unfortunately, Darfuri Students were forced to pay over hundreds of thousands Sudanese pounds, despite the Sudanese government agreed upon Abuja Agreement with SLA Minnawi Faction to treat Darfuri students as victims of war and not to pay any fees.
The Sudan Intelligence has reacted brutally against thousands of Darfuri Students everywhere around the country. It is a policy of excluding Darfuris from basic rights of education, freedom and democracy, as Sudanese Citizens are supposed to have all freedoms, including the freedom of speech, and expression, the access to health care, security, etc.
We undersigned from the U.S. to all over the world, seriously urging the United Nations, the U.S. administration, the European communities, Canada, and Africa to address this tragic issue and stop Sudanese government from abusing its own students and civilians and press them to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
We on behalf of Darfuri Students, demand the following:
- Forgive Darfuri students and all other victims from paying the fees.
- Get the suspended students immediately back into their schools and dorms.
- Provide all those injured students the correct medical treatment.
- Provide full compensation to all their belongings that were destroyed or confiscated.
- Free all the student detainees and those kidnapped to be tortured at Ghost Houses of the Security Intelligence.
- Stop harassment against the lawyers trying to defend these students and free those detained.
-Bring the Sudanese personnel responsible for committing the attacks and responsible of hurting and targeting specifically Darfuri students.
Here are a few of the names of the Students victimized, beaten brutally, suspended out of Khartoum University November, 05, 2009, and sent to the detention. Unfortunately, all of them are Girls. According to the sources, the head of Khartoum University, Professor Mustafa Idriss Bashir is also responsible of all these incidents, because he provided the details as a government supporter and Islamic fundamentalist.
