The US Special Envoy for Sudan working for Normalization with the genocidal Regime of Al-basir

Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy was shocked by the remarks made by the US Special Envoy to Sudan, Mr. J Scott Gration,
during his visit to Sudan on April 2, 2009, Mr. GRATION was quoted as saying, "The US and Sudan need to be friends".
It is reported that he also made remarks towards wanting to lift Sanctions against Sudan and remove the Sudan regime as a
terrorist supporter. Please see the link in Sudan tribune...

These remarks and quotes from Gration has disappointed all Darfuris and those supporting Darfur rights for justice and holding those accountable for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Since Damanga and all other organizations strongly supported the Obama administration for choosing Mr. Gration to be the special envoy for Sudan and help to stop the crisis and bring justice for Darfuri people and achieve a lasting peace. It has become very unfortunate that the Obama Administration seems to be working closely with the genocidal regime to undermine the rights and justice in Darfur. Instead of holding the criminals of Sudan accountable and bringing them to justice first before any initiatives of normalization. The US government is appeasing Khartoum and taking such progress at the expense of the victims of the Darfur genocide, blasting and ignoring all calls of those working for fairness, justice and peace.

On behaf of the people of Darfur and all voices of Freedom and Democracy we strongly condemn this new policy of the US administration and the rhetoric process and the irresponsible interest of Mr Gration dealing with the Sudanese regime. We ask Gration and Obama Administration to Immediately reconsider their narrow and transparent policies with the genocidal regime and to stop any attempts of normalization with this regime before justice and a accountability are achieved. They must Implement and enforce the ICC arrest warrant against Al-Bashir and the other suspects first and send peace keepers of 26,000 to Darfur, and Implement the resolution 1769 first. Put the rights of the people of Darfur above all the interests expected to gain from the criminals of Sudan regime. Justice is justice, and no one is above the law. It is time for serious action and to bring the humanitarian crisis to an end before it is too late.
